I agree that support for this feature would be useful. As it is, CSO support in PCSX2 (or PPSSPP) is quite fast, and only gets slower if you layer in the complicated caching layer used in PCSX2's GZ support.Įdit: that the XZ pull uses a file in /tmp to decompress to as a "cache" is slightly horrifying, but I'm sure the support will improve. On powerful desktops, this probably won't matter, but that's why I wasn't very excited about this change - personally - for PPSSPP in hrydgard/ppsspp#10417.

Just to note: CHD is likely to decompress slower than CSO. Therefore it isn't really appropriate for Mode 2 PS1 games (see ISO file not aligned to sector size unknownbrackets/maxcso#13.) The existence of such tools doesn't really make CSO itself lossy.ĬSO, at least maxcso and the support in PCSX2, doesn't support files not a clean multiple of 2048 bytes. This is a destructive change, but such a tool could exist for CHD or gzip files.

There are some CSO creation tools that are ALSO able to strip files (such as movies) from discs. If you decompress a CSO, you get the original ISO - just as with zlib. It basically applies raw zlib compression at an adjustable block size level + embedded index. The "CSO" format, used primarily for PSP and PS2 games, is LOSSLESS and totally separate. It is supported by Dolphin and involves deleting parts of the disc that have random data and are not accessible by games anyway. The Black Screen Error (CDVD READ ERROR) occurs in the PCSX2 emulator when users attempt to use this piece of software to play PS2 games. There are two formats sometimes referred to as CSO. This issue occurs with multiple games and with several different configurators of this emulator. The error message can only be visible in the program log. In most cases, this particular error will occur when you attempt to play a PAL version of a game with a version of the PCSX2 emulator older than 1.4.

This happens because previous versions built around playing NTSC games, which made a lot of PAL ISOs unplayable. In case you have an AMD CPU, chances are the problem will occur due to an incorrect renderer that was auto-assigned. To fix the issue in this case, you will need to access the Video (GS) settings of your emulator and set the Renderer to Direct3D9 (Hardware). But if you have a GPU with DirectX11 support, you should set the Renderer to Direct3D11 (Hardware).įinally, PCSX2 is notoriously known for its inability to play games directly from a DVD drive. So in order to work around this inconvenience, you need to create an ISO out of your game disk and either mount it conventionally or use the internal feature to load the ISO into PCSX2. Method 1: Install Version 1.4 of PCSX2Īs it turns out, in most cases the issue occurs whenever users attempt to play a PAL version (Made for Europe) of a game.
